Nova Scotia
Genre: Comedy
Filmography: Roll with it
Brian George is an actor, accessibility advocate and former stand-up comedian currently living in Halifax. He performed stand-up before deciding he wanted to pursue other avenues due to a number of factors, including a lack of accessibility to many of the venues he was performing in.
Brian first appeared on the hit series ‘Vollies’, on Fibe TV1, where he plays Bryson, the current mayor of the fictional town of Essex-West-Essex. His performance garnered him a Groundbreaking Performance nomination at the Screen Nova Scotia Awards. Brian is now starring in and producing the TV1 series ‘Roll with it’, a scripted comedy based on many of Brian’s real life experiences dealing with the lack of accessibility in his everyday life.
How did you first get into the film industry?
I actually met Jonathan Torrens in just a chance meeting. He's a great guy, I’d work with him the rest of my life if I could. Things kind of snowballed from there. I never really thought about acting before, I'm a former stand-up comedian. But when this acting career came up, my first job was in a commercial. Within, I'd say about three minutes I was absolutely hooked. I remember the feeling I had after I completed my first scene. When I had some downtime during the shoot, I was texting my family and friends saying, I found my calling. This is what I love. This is what I want to do.
What advice would you give to fellow creators who are looking to work with TV1?
Don't take no for an answer. Just do the work. If you have to, take lessons. If you can, spend the money on workshops and things like that. As the cliché saying goes, spend money to make money. And just do the work. There is support out there, so just never give up.
